Asagao-so and Asagao-hin

Morning glory Ipomoea nil (=Pharbitis nil)

In the latter period of the Edo era, the cultivation of the varied morning glory thrived. During the first morning-glory boom of the Bunka/Bunsei era, new hereditary variations occurred one after another. Because floriculturists closely followed the cultivation of new individual characteristcs, many gardening picture books of the morning glory appeared. Let's observe some pictures in "Asagao-sou" by Keisei Sizian and "Asagao-hin" by Ryuuhu Minegisi, both of which appeared in Bunka 14 (1817).
